Angel City Sports
Angel City Sports
AdaptivApps and Angel City Sports share the vision of creating an inclusive world and it was the fulfillment of this vision that led to a partnership between AdaptivApps and Angel City Sports.
Both organizations were created for a purpose bigger than themselves. It was in June 2013 when Clayton and Ezra Frech, founders of Angel City Sports, went to attend Endeavor Games in Oklahoma City and felt the need to create South California’s own multi-sport Paralympic-style competition. This idea finally came to fruition in June 2015 when the first Angel City Games were held in LA. With over 1300 attendees, live coverage by Fox Sports AM 570, and Hollywood stars like Christian Bale and Adam Sandler along with several pro-athletes present there to cheer the athletes, the event turned out to be tremendously successful.
After the first successful event, Angel City Sports has continued to grow and contributed a great deal to the field of Adaptive Sports. It was in 2019 that Adena Harmon, the CEO of C-Hear, attended the Angel City Sports Games for the first time. Adena, with her passion for facilitating inclusion in every field, was instantly inspired by the talent and zeal of the athletes participating in the game and wanted to take their experience a step further. This is when she decided to build an app that will change the way information, related to the games, is shared.
The idea was discussed with Dylan Rafaty, the head of accessibility of C-Hear, to analyze the possibility of such an app. It was then that they discussed the idea with Austin Howes, now CTO of AdaptivApps, and Austin approached his former educational institute, Lambda School in San Francisco, for a partnership. Sadly, it was found that the partnership couldn’t happen due to C-Hear being a for-profit organization.
However, this set-back was promptly turned into an opportunity by the idea of creating a public benefit corporation and that is how AdaptivApps came into being in February 2020. This how a far-reaching vision and a desire for the greater good, led to the formation of not just an incredible app but a whole company; that will go on to create many products like that and serve the cause of accessibility and inclusion.
